Slipstream ZLD grew from a multi-year effort to make wastewater crystallization smaller, more energy-efficient, more maintainable, and more accessible to industrial generators operating below the scale of conventional large ZLD plants.

The Original Challenge

Bring crystallization within reach of smaller industrial generators.

Traditional zero-liquid-discharge systems were often designed for very large industrial or utility-scale installations. Slipstream’s development effort focused on a different part of the market: facilities with meaningful wastewater challenges, but without the flow, footprint, staffing, or capital structure of a conventional large ZLD plant.

The objective was not simply to build another evaporator. It was to create a compact crystallization platform that recovered water, managed solids, reused thermal energy, and remained serviceable in the field.
Development Path

From process concept to complete industrial equipment.

Slipstream’s historical materials describe the X-Series as the result of approximately five years of development and maturation.

Architecture Development

Falling film evaporation, mechanical vapor recompression, low-pressure steam, and closed-vessel crystallization were combined into one process concept.

Equipment Engineering

Reactors, pumps, vapor handling, controls, solids management, structural frames, materials, and maintenance access were developed into complete system configurations.

Fabrication and Testing

Slipstream built integrated equipment and refined the design through operation, troubleshooting, cleaning, maintenance, and application work.

Commercial Platform

The X-60, X-180, and X-300 were documented as standard models, with the X-180 serving as the primary commercial product.

Energy Reuse Through Crystallization

Mechanical vapor recompression reused Stage I vapor, while Stage II vapor returned to Stage I to extend the energy-reuse cycle beyond evaporation and into crystallization.

Broad Wastewater Tolerance

The platform was developed for difficult chemistry, with anti-scaling dosing, upstream solids removal, and materials selection configured around the stream.

Maintainability by Design

Scaling and fouling were treated as manageable heat-transfer challenges. Critical surfaces were accessible for inspection, cleaning, descaling, and replacement.
